Book Summary - Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra

In this episode of Literature on the Rocks

We’re locking the doors, checking the closets, and diving headfirst into the tension-filled pages of Nightwatching by Tracy Sierra. This summary episode had us spiraling—in the best, most paranoid way possible.

From the heart-pounding fear of someone breaking into your house, to the unbearable anxiety of hiding with kids who don’t know the meaning of “indoor voice,” this book did not let us breathe. We talk through every chilling twist, the reality of explaining that yes, unfortunately, monsters are real, and what it means to fight like hell to protect your family.

We also got very honest about what our hideout plans would be if someone ever broke in… let’s just say, if you don’t have a code word by the end of this episode, you might be rethinking your whole emergency strategy.

And of course, we paired this nail-biter with a cocktail that’s dark, mysterious, and just a little spicy—kind of like the book itself.

The Corner Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz dark rum

  • ¾ oz blackberry syrup

  • ¾ oz lemon juice

  • Dash of spicy bitters

  • 1 egg white

  • Blackberry for garnish

Directions:

Dry shake all ingredients first (no ice), then add ice and shake again until chilled and frothy. Strain into a coupe or rocks glass and garnish with a fresh blackberry.

It’s sweet like an Old Fashioned, but with an edge—and yes, we were tempted to sip it while peeking around corners.

So turn off the lights, press play, and prepare for your heart rate to spike. Just… maybe don’t listen alone.
