In this episode of Literature on the Rocks…
we’re back with our book club discussion of Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez! After swooning in the summary episode, this week we’re unpacking listener thoughts and diving into all the ways this story of fake dating, anxiety, and healing hit us right in the feels.
We talk about the hilarity of pulling off a fake relationship and how far we’d go to convince friends and family (spoiler: one of us would lie about meeting at Llama Yoga Retreat and be fully serious that we should take her for her word), the tenderness of Jacob’s coping strategies for anxiety, and the mosaic theme that reminds us we’re all made up of messy but beautiful pieces. There were so many moments where we saw ourselves in Briana and Jacob—and we loved hearing how you did, too.
And because we couldn’t resist, we played a round of Slip It In, inspired by Briana giving Jacob phrases to sneak into conversations when he needed a break. Let’s just say things got ridiculous fast and Rachel’s poker face = nonexistent.
Of course, we couldn’t close the episode without a drink in hand. Since this round is all about connection, comfort, and a softer side of love, we mixed up a mocktail that still feels just as special as our cocktail pairings.
Lavender Lemon Love Mocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
1 oz lavender simple syrup
1 oz fresh lemon juice
2 dashes orange bitters (non-alcoholic optional)
Top with sparkling water
Directions:
Shake the lavender syrup, lemon juice, and bitters with ice. Strain into a chilled glass and top with sparkling water. Garnish with a lemon twist or sprig of lavender. Sip, smile, and celebrate love that feels light and real.
And just like Jacob sliding a note, here’s ours to you: listen in next week for our next read—you won’t want to miss it!
