Book Club - Twisted Love by Ana Huang
In this episode of Literature on the Rocks…
We’re diving back into Twisted Love by Ana Huang—this time with book prompt answers and our unfiltered opinions. It’s a grumpy x sunshine romance that comes with more red flags than a Formula 1 race, and we’ve got thoughts. Was Alex’s icy persona ever redeemable? Did Ava deserve more than "brooding billionaire with control issues"? We’re tackling the emotional whiplash, the intensity of their chemistry, and whether or not this kind of heat level actually adds anything to the story (or just sets off the smoke alarm).
We’re also breaking down one of the most debated romance tropes of all time: the unlikable love interest. If a man has a tragic past, is it enough to excuse controlling behavior? Or are we just trained to accept bare minimum growth as a happy ending? You decide—but we definitely did.
And since our cocktail was an absolute disaster, we’re bringing you a mocktail that actually slaps.
Ava’s Spritz Mocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
4 oz cherry soda or sparkling water
1 oz white grape juice
½ oz vanilla syrup
Splash of lemon juice
Whipped cream (optional, but highly encouraged)
Maraschino cherry for garnish
Directions:
Fill a glass with ice, pour in the cherry soda, grape juice, vanilla syrup, and a splash of lemon juice. Stir gently, then top with whipped cream and a cherry. It’s bubbly, sweet, and soft—basically everything Alex is not.
So grab your Ava’s Spritz, settle in, and join us as we debate Alex’s coldness, Ava’s sunshine energy, and whether steamy scenes can save a shaky storyline. Spoiler alert: we’re not letting anyone off the hook.
