In this episode of Literature on the Rocks

we’re back with our The Mothers book club episode, and let’s just say—this one had us spiraling. We’re unpacking the messy, emotional toll of early motherhood, the weight of isolation even when you’re never alone, and whether we’d cover up a crime for our friends or snitch faster than a toddler with a granola bar.

We get into the complex role men play in the story—mostly off to the side, yet still wreaking havoc—and how their actions shape the women’s choices, for better or (usually) worse. And of course, we tackle the big one: What would you do if your bestie called and said she might’ve killed her husband? Call a lawyer? Grab a shovel? Pack snacks for both? It’s a wild ride full of secrets, lies, and probably some crushed Cheerios in your purse.

And since not everyone can drink wine at preschool pickup, we’ve got a mocktail that’s perfect for sipping while gossiping about murder, mayhem, and mom life.

The Juice Box Alibi Mocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz white grape juice

  • 1 oz lemon juice

  • 2 oz sparkling water

  • Splash of cranberry juice

  • Frozen grapes for garnish (optional)

Directions:

Shake the juices with ice, strain into a wine glass or mason jar, top with sparkling water, and toss in a few frozen grapes. Sip slowly and practice your poker face. You never know when someone’s going to spill a real secret.
